Mikey Garcia (38-0, 30 KO's) picked up his 4th world title in his 4th weight division defeating Sergey Lipinets (13-1, 10 KO's) to win the IBF super lightweight (140 lbs) title. The fight took place at the Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio, Texas and was televised on Showtime Championship Boxing.
The 28 year-old Lipinets, who won the IBF title in November, put up a tough fight. Lipinets had success pressuring Garcia through parts of the fight, but Garcia was able to move and use his boxing skills to keep Lipinets at bay. Mikey Garcia ended up dropping Lipinets in round 7 on his way to a unanimous decision win with scores of 117-110, 117-110, and 116-111.
After the fight, Garcia said he wants his next fight to take place at lightweight (135 lbs) to defend his WBC title one more time, then make a permanent move to super lightweight (140 lbs). Check out the YouTube video of the post-fight press conference below courtesy of Showtime Sports:
