Puerto Rican boxer Felix Verdejo was once considered the next great Puerto Rican boxing star.
His career got derailed after a couple boring fights followed up by a devastating motorcycle accident.
Verdejo appeared to be on his road back, but he suffered a major set back losing by TKO to Antonio Lozado Jr. (39-2, 33 KO's).
The end happened in the 10th and final round after Verdejo was dropped by Lozado. Verdejo got up and was on the run with 30 seconds left in the fight with Lozado started landing bombs on Verdejo. The referee wasted no time jumping in to stop the fight with just 23 seconds left. Verdejo's camp protested the stoppage, but after a review of the judges' scorecards, the end result would have been the same even if the fight wouldn't have been stopped. If the fight would have gone the distance and the judges scored the last round a 10-8 round for Lozado, Lozado would have picked up the split decision win with two judges scoring it 96-93 and 95-94 for Lozado with the third judge scoring it 96-94 for Verdejo.
The loss drops the 24 year-old Verdejo's career record to 23-1, 15 KO's.
