Cuban light heavyweight Sullivan Barrera took care of business against Felix Valera (15-2, 13 KO's), but it wasn't easy. Although Barrera controlled most of the action, Valera dropped Barrera with a left hook early in the fight, showboated at times to try to embarrass Sullivan, and then landed a barrage of punches in the later rounds on Barrera that were below the belt.
The result was a unanimous decision win for Barrera with scores of 98-88, 97-90, and 97-89. Check out the YouTube highlights above courtesy of HBO Boxing.
At 35 years-old, Barrera (21-1, 14 KO's) is looking for that big fight, and he could have it now against new IBF and IBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (31-2-1, 27 KO's), who won the titles on the same card. With both Barrera and Kovalev being promoted by Main Events Promotions, a fight between the two will likely be set up for 2018.
