This is just the latest of a laundry list of legal troubles and poor decisions by Jones. In December, Jon Jones tested positive for cocaine shortly before his big fight against Daniel Cormier. A couple years earlier, Jones was arrested for DUI after running his car into a telephone pole.
Jones' mounting problems were too much for the UFC. UFC President Dana White announced that the UFC has stripped Jon Jones of his light heavyweight title. In addition, the UFC has suspended Jones indefinitely.
Jones was scheduled to fight Anthony Johnson at UFC 187 on May 23rd in Las Vegas. However, Daniel Cormier will replace Jones at UFC 187.
The story with the accident is that Jones was allegedly involved in a three-car accident Sunday morning. Witnesses said a man fitting Jones' description ran a red light, collided with another vehicle that was being driven by a 25 year-old pregnant woman, and then fled on foot. According to police reports, the man apparently returned to the vehicle to grab a "large handful of cash" before fleeing a second time.
After the announcment, Jones tweeted out:
"Got a lot of soul searching to do. Sorry to everyone I've let down."
Big cross roads right now for Jon Jones. He'll either turn his life around and make a great comeback, or be another athlete who had it all and lost it because of poor decision making.
