Srisaket Sor Rungvisai Gets Majority Decision Over Juan Francisco Estrada
Thailand's Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (45-4-1, 40 KOs) retained the WBC Super Flyweight Title upon earning a majority decision win over Juan Francisco Estrada (36-3) in a very entertaining main event on HBO Boxing from The Forum in Inglewood, CA. Rungvisai reassured audiences that his power was indeed real. Estrada indeed had the slicker counterpunching and swifter footwork, but it became obvious that he preferred to avoid rough exchanges inside with Rungvisai. After watching Rungvisai's destruction of Chocolatito in Superfly 1, this was definitely the right strategy for Estrada. Instead, Estrada back peddled and changed directions, landing the faster shots to Rungvisai’s body. However, Rungvisai seemed to land his left hand at will when Estrada moved to his left.
In the fifth round, Rungvisai seemed to go down twice and even appeared stunned as he continued to fight, but the referee ruled that Estrada pushed Rungvisai, so the knockdowns did not count.
In the end, the judges gave a majority decision to Rungvisai. Rungvisai was the more aggressive opponent and threw hundreds more power punches and total punches, but Estrada's punches were more precise. He connected with a higher punch percentage in jabs (18.4%), total punches (28.2%), and power punches (33.2%) as opposed to Rungvisai's jabs (7.5%), total punches (22.1%), and power punches (24.1%).
The judges scored the bout 117-111, 115-113 on two cards, and 114-114.
